FAQ: What is the problem with a sewing machine that does not move when
you push the foot pedal?
ANS:
1. Power may not be plugged in. Check This First.
2. Could be loose wire to the foot control.
3. On an electronic machine, you may have a safety
feature preventing movement, a switch off, or similar issue.
4. In an extreme cases, the motor may be locked up
or the sewing machine shaft may be frozen in position.
Call for Tech Support or Bring the Machine in for service if
not item 1. |
| FAQ: What causes skipped stitches? ANS:
1. Check the needle.
Is it the right needle for the fabric? Is it straight or bent?
Is it in the socket properly? Is the needle sharp or does it have
a burr on the tip.
2. Check the thread. Is the machine treaded
properly? Is it in the check spring? Are there little knots
or lint around the hole in the needle?
3. If the problem is either of the above, replace
the needle or thread and test sew again.
4. If you continue to have skipped stitches, bring
it in for service. Your machine may be out of time, or there may
be some other issue only the technicians can fix. |
| FAQ: How do I adjust my tensions? ANS:
Think of sewing machine tensions as two separate tug of war teams
pulling against each other. One teams pulls up while the other
pulls down. In the middle is the fabric. Perfect tension
exists when the thread from the top and the thread from the bottom
meet within the fabric. When tension is not properly balanced
one of the two teams is pulling harder than the other. The
winning team pulls the thread from the other side to collect on its
side of the fabric.
If the upper team is pulling harder, (the upper tension is
tighter), thread from the bobbin will be pulled up and loop or
pucker on top of the fabric.
If the lower team is pulling harder, (the bobbin tension is
tighter than the upper tension), the upper thread will be pulled
through the fabric and loop or pucker underneath the fabric.
The simple solution, is to adjust the upper tension knob or dial
to increase or decrease the upper tension in relation to the bobbin
tension. If you see extra thread on the bottom of the fabric,
tighten the upper tension until the thread underneath is no longer
obvious.
If you see puckers of bobbin thread on top of the fabric,
decrease the upper tension adjustment until it once more balances
with the lower tension and the excess threads on the top of the
fabric are gone.
There are many causes of poor tension that this explanation does
not address. If you make adjustments as above and the tensions
are still out of whack, call technical support or bring your machine
to your local service technician.
Common causes of poor tension: Improper threading, Burrs on hook
or other threadline contact, bad needle, lint in tension system, and
others. |
